Gene Pool Reprint Sold Out!

Initial Setup | How To Play | Spanish | Catalan

The youngest player goes first. Your turn consists of three parts: choosing an action, claiming research years, and wrapping up.

1) Choosing An Action

Insertion - Insert a Base Pair card from your hand between any two cards in the sequence. After an Insertion, you must choose an end card to discard and reduce the DNA sequence to six cards. Place discarded Base Pair cards face up in two piles, one for A/T, one for C/G.

Deletion - Remove a Base Pair card between two cards in the DNA sequence and discard it to the appropriate pile. After a Deletion, you must place a card from your hand on either end of the sequence, in the orientation of your choice.

Mutation - Replace any card in the DNA sequence with a card from your hand; discard the replaced card to its Base Pair pile.

Inversion - Select one or more adjacent cards and rotate them within the DNA sequence. When inverting more than one card, the cards must be rotated as a group, not individually.

If your Inversion is the exact reversal of your opponent's previous action, you must discard a Base Pair card. If you do not have a Base Pair card, you cannot perform this reversal.

Draw Base Pair - Draw the top card from one of the Base Pair decks into your hand.

Draw Gene Research - Draw the top card from one of the two Gene Pools. If you currently have two Gene research cards in your hand, you cannot choose this action.

2) Claiming Gene Research Years

After your action, if any of your current Gene Research cards match the DNA sequence, you have repaired these genes! Display these cards to the other player and claim the years shown on the cards. Keep claimed cards in front of you to track your score. Gene Research cards can match either left to right on the top of the sequence or right to left on the bottom of the sequence, but not around the edge.

3) Wrapping-up

Whenever you have no Gene Research cards in your hand, draw the top Gene Research card from one of the two Gene Pools. Your turn is now over.

Ending The Game

Turns will alternate between both players until one player earns at least 9 years research experience. This player wins the game and the Nobel Prize in Physiology or Medicine!
